One of a elite band of hotels that can lay claim to be the most luxurious hotel in the capital, it boasts the added convenience of an adjoining three-storey upmarket shopping mall. This is a hotel on the up.
Description:
In its old guise as The Lanka Oberoi, this ambitious atrium hotel had a certain grandeur and opulence, as well as sound business credentials. As the Colombo Plaza, its new owners fostered a heightened sense of warmth. Now, as Cinnamon Grand (hopefully a name that will remain for a long time), it is the finished product. There have been a host of recent improvements, such as a The Coffee Shop in the main foyer, the popular Cheers Pub and two restaurants -- an open-air fusion restaurant called Tao and Lagoon, the best fish restaurant in town -- that have already gained acclaim. The rooms, too, have been given a facelift and the hotel is fast-becoming the most sought-after five star in Colombo.
Facilities:
The ground floor area has a modern, minimalist and immensely spacious feel. An expansive lobby includes a fountain with seating, and an improved tea lounge with bar and patisserie. TAO restaurant specialises in fusion food, Lagoon fish restaurant has set new standards for a glintingly-modern seafood restaurant in Colombo and Taprobane and London Grill extend the choice still further. Cheers pub with snooker and pool, outdoor swimming pool (largest in Colombo), the atmospheric outdoor Breeze bar, steam bath, sauna, massage, fitness centre with squash courts, children's activities and creche, hair salon, well-equipped business centre. Corridors now have double glazing facing the atrium to ensure more peace and privacy. The atrium area has six meeting rooms.
